Chapter 1: The Unknown

Afghanistan is a landlocked country, although in this country, lays hundreds of rivers provided by the Hindu Kush mountains, which span over an seemingly endless distance.

This article won’t be too indepth, as there is not too much to dive into this region of surfing, as the locations are unknown, and the specific river spots are impossible to geographically highlight.

Chapter 2: Videos About Afghanistan River Surfing

There are a couple of videos, and soon to be a movie, about exploring Afghanistan, their culture, and the potential for incredible river surfing.

Lets highlight a bit of each of them.

Video #1: Surfistan

The first video that I would like to highlight comes from a video series featured by the World Surf League. It showcases how a young Afghani, Afridun Amu fled to Europe, during the Taliba ruled Afghanistan. Thereby, in France he learned to surf. He then set out on bringing surfing back to his childhood culture in Afghanistan.

Check out the video here, which links to the specific river surfing moment;

Video #2: Unsurfed Afghanistan

This movie that boasts it filmed in 3 continents, follows the same previous antagonist, Afridun Amu, and his goal of bringing surfing to his home country of Afghanistan. The full movie can be found right in the link here .

A short snippet and introduction to movie can be seen below;

Video #3: Surfing in Afghanistan

This drama short film, is at the time of writing this article, soon to come out! Although, from the trailers alone this movie has not shown to include any actual surfing in it, but rather the metaphoric way of surfing the world. I have linked the movie here on Youtube.

Chapter 3: Concluding Surfing Notes

Not much else can really be said about surfing in Afghanistan. The potential for man-made river surfing waves, is more than a potential, although the actuality of it happening is less likely.

Regardless, people are still exploring the world of surfing in Afghanistan and sharing its fantastic culture.
